McCain clinches Republican nomination

With tonight’s race, Republican candidate John McCain has clinched the party’s nomination. By 8 p.m. Tuesday night, CNN projected that McCain had gathered enough delegates to surpass the 1,191 delegates required to win the nomination. Huckabee remains well behind McCain in delegate counts and has received much criticism for his dedication to staying in the presidential race. CNN also reported that by Thursday Huckabee would end his bid for the presidency. McCain is expected to speak later tonight.
