More than 150 students in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) presented their research to fellow students, faculty and administrators during the Celebrations of Scholarship April 25.
“It seemed like there was a lot of good work being done that wasn’t being noticed,” Jeffrey Hughes, CAS dean, said. “We decided to dedicate a day for students to discuss their work.”
The event, which lasted from early in the morning until late Friday afternoon, combined several research presentations hosted by various departments within the college and filled Shilling Hall and parts of Staley Library. Classes for all departments under the college were cancelled so students could attend sessions and present their research. In all, some 50 posters, 38 department-sponsored presentations, 100 freshmen and James Millikin Scholars (JMS) and five group presentations demonstrated the university’s commitment to combining theory with practice, Hughes said.
